Matygo, v. 1.3

The code keeps rolling. Version 1.3 went out Friday evening.

Notables:

  • Speed.

Joe pulled out a lot of the view logic and rewrote almost all of the renderers for our most heavily used controls. Result: Animations are *much* faster, especially on firefox where things were hurting the most. The whole app feels notably snappier.
  • Grading System

The grading system received a significant upgrade as we incorporated a number of feedback items including: autosaving, enter grades by name, non-numeric ‘not entered’ grades, and more little tweaks.
  • Breadcrumb Navigation.

Breadcrumbs are a pretty well established navigation element, and we finally found a way to get them into the UI without cluttering up the look & feel.
  • Desktop Grid.

Spurred by an insightful suggestion from Anthony, one of our student users, we decided to have windows minimize to a desktop grid, getting rid of the top ribbon. We’re not sure if we’re going to keep it, but we want to experiment with storing state on the desktop because there seems to be a lot of potential there.

As always, stay tuned as there’s more to come. The next push will likely be a core stability release, we’re working a lot on infrastructure & quality right now but I’m sure we’ll find a way to sneak in some notable feature. :)
